This is a digital design from a canvas called Grasp, painted by O’Donovan in 2014.
O’Donovan was interested in depicting the flesh of hands - showing the skin with the muscle, fat, tendons and bone beneath. She also wanted to show what putting the fingers under pressure did to its appearance. This work was from a photo of the artist clutching the washing line in her communal garden. She wondered what the neighbours thought when they looked from their windows!Try it!
