Tom Venner

My photography is rooted in observation — of light, structure, surfaces, traces of use, and the quiet details that often sit just outside the center of attention. Through my collections Local Light and Distant Light, I photograph familiar places close to home and places encountered while traveling. The subjects vary — architecture, roadsides, open spaces, signs, water, ruins, and small moments of human presence — but the approach is consistent. I am interested in places that feel layered, lived in, weathered, or quietly resonant. Many of my images are less about documenting a location and more about noticing how a place feels. A wall, doorway, road, shadow, window, or passing figure can become the point where structure, memory, and atmosphere meet.
