Michelle Slee is a contemporary artist specialising in ethereal abstract landscapes that capture the shifting interplay of light, texture, and movement. Working primarily with palette knives and catalyst wedges, she layers and scrapes back paint, mirroring the way landscapes evolve over time—shaped by natural forces and human experience alike. Her work evokes dreamlike atmospheres, where boundaries between land, sky, and emotion dissolve, inviting quiet contemplation. Michelle’s work has been exhibited in several galleries across Wales, including Y Ty Celf Gallery (Llanelli), Glynn Vivian Gallery (Swansea), Queen Street Gallery (Neath), and King Street Gallery (Carmarthen). In 2023, she won first place in the Peace Amongst Beauty Open Art Competition for her piece Distant Summit. Her paintings embrace the tension between control and intuition, blending soft, atmospheric gradients with bold, expressive marks. She works wet-on-wet, moving quickly to preserve a sense of energy and spontaneity, allowing the painting to unfold organically. By scraping back layers, she reveals hidden depths—echoing the way landscapes hold traces of time, memory, and change. Inspired by the shifting moods of nature, her work seeks to distill the feeling of mist rolling over distant hills, the glow of fading light on water, or the quiet vastness of an open sky. Each piece is an invitation to step into an ephemeral, meditative space where movement and stillness coexist.
