Born in Athens, Greece, Markella is a multidisciplinary artist working across ceramics, painting, and collage. Her practice explores the tension between tradition and transformation, staging quiet acts of defiance against personal and cultural erosion, mythology, and political corruption. At its core lies a reckoning with betrayal—of the self, the body, and the inherited histories we’re asked to carry. Each piece becomes a site of friction, where the fluidity of identity meets the density of material. Her recent works in painted décollage and ceramics navigate symbolic heritage and lived experience, revealing identity as constructed, contested, and continually in flux. Blending neo-Renaissance beauty with raw narratives, her work interrogates the space between what we inherit and what we choose to become. Markella exhibited internationally from the age of seven and studied at classical academies in Paris, Madrid, Berlin, and Athens. Her work has been shown in London, Athens, Italy, and the USA.
