Maria Peña / CANVAS ON WALLS

I am a visual artist, Colombian and Australian My practice is muralism and oil painting on canvas. I studied Fine Arts in The Art Academy School ASAB, in Bogotá and a Masters of Fine Arts at RMIT University in Melbourne. My career has developed between the 2 countries through solo and collective shows, Mural projects and ArtIst in Residency programs. I have installed murals in Australia (Melbourne, Frankston and Mornington/Victoria, Candelo/NSW, Yeppoon/Queensland ), in Colombia (Cajicà and Bogotá), India (Kochi), UAE (Abu Dhabi Art Hub). I made part of the Big Pic Mural Festival in Frankston (Australia) 2023. I have call my Muralism Style "Canvas on Walls" as I treat, use and feel each wall as one of my canvas. Carefully and delicately painted with rollers, brushes and stencils. I bring colors and volumes into the wall. Each wall offers a different pace and rhythm for the creation. Walls have their own soul and their own stories to tell, what I do Is to dig in it's feelings and bring the images that connect the wall with the space. I leave my trace, and contribute as a mural artist through the energy of my creativity, my skills and concepts. I am inspired by human features, faces, hands and nature. My intention Is that. each mural create a narrative and transforms the atmosphere surrounding the wall.
