Description
A self-portrait represented within an ancient adobe vessel reflects contemporary social issues and the dissolution of the status quo. The figure merges into a setting of bold red inspired by the patterns of Wari tunics and the use of gold paint like in old European art. The Huaco vessels from the north coast of Peru were ceramic objects created by Andean cultures, including the Moche, to represent important figures, deities, and individuals from their societies. These vessels often included portrait-like depictions and were associated with spiritual beliefs, rituals, and the afterlife. For me, using the idea of a replica within a vessel symbolizes my connection to my culture and traditions, and the feeling of belonging that continues beyond time and place. The concept of dissolution emerges through the transformation of ideas, memories, and lived experiences, reflecting the continuous process of identity formation.
