THE DEBASTATION...The agave, known as Agave azul tequilana Weber, a fundamental plant for the production of tequila, a drink of great cultural and economic importance in Mexico.
However, its intensive cultivation has led to significant challenges, including soil degradation and phytosanitary problems.
Studies have shown that soils cultivated with blue agave in Jalisco have low soil fertility due to its monoculture.
Exacerbated by climate change that alters risk areas and the devastation caused by the exaggerated cultivation of this plant, it causes little rain by deforesting extensive areas to plant more plants of the same plant.
These problems impact the production of agave and tequila, and also have socioeconomic consequences for farmers and communities that depend on this industry.
