Lance Patrick Pressl is a self-taught photographer specializing in fine art images. His work explores the complex interplay of lines, shadows and form and is designed to encourage his viewers to see familiar objects or shapes in new and different ways. Some have suggested that Pressl sees the material world fundamentally differently than others, which gives him the special ability to capture unique and compelling images. Every image Pressl captures is done with the intent to tell a story or evoke an emotion. Among his many interests, he is fascinated by the human body and frequently uses traditional and nontraditional representations to capture the curiosity of his audience. A common feature of his work is the juxtaposition of a human figure with a single object--typically something found--to reveal new and unexpected relationships. Simplicity and pureness of form are central to his artistic expression. A student of ancient Greek philosophy, Pressl is drawn to the belief held by Plato and others that there is an ideal form of beauty which is universal and not dependent on individual tastes or preferences, i.e., beauty in its purest form. He is driven to seek out as many earthly forms of beauty so as to capture and share their wonder. His work has been recognized and presented in juried exhibitions, international competitions and fine art magazines. He is represented by Haze Gallery in Berlin, Germany.
