I painted in Giverny every year from 1993 onwards.  It became my landing ground for each year's painting.  Painting the gardens and surrounding landscapes were a great warm up and I also taught each year based in nearby La Roche Guyon.

Monet's Bridge

This piece was done on a bluff it is a plein air painting. The bluff was particular beautiful because it had breyers (The French word for Heather) Intermixed with wild wheat on the cliff. Usually the wind would blow which I painted in another piece called Wild wheat and Breyers.   But this particular day it was a lull and the sailor out sailing in this cove expressed the blissful moment.

Afternoon Lull

This piece was a study of the inland beach that stretched two miles out during low tide. It’s the same beach that I painted with the Meanders of the Sea series.   During low tide people would go out and dig for clams.  During this period all of these reflections of the sky  with puddles and inlets from the retiring sea wove in and among the beach mounds.  . It was exhibited at the Mystic Maritime Museum gallery.   It is a plein air painting and a 12 x 17 oil on  Linen canvas.

Reflections of Azure

Painted in the location of the New Venuzula beach where there were mussels all over the rocks because of the high tide there was an 8 foot tide in this location and during low tide you would have these beautiful tones in the beach from pink granite and then the blue green violet color of the muscles that fascinated me.  This particular location I painted mini pieces including Sandcastles, Discoveries on the Beach, a large 24 x 42 of mussel rocks at dawn piece and a half tide smaller 14 x 30 piece. This location was a landing point during the war for the resistance.   This piece was exhibited at one of the Mystic International Exhibition.  It is a 12 x 17 plein air oil.

Ribbons of Blue

The original oil paintings on canvas was painted on location in Brittany.  I focused on the fresh water run offs in my beach painting that was the design elements for the subject.  Kids were everywhere so I just returned when they were about and added to the scene.  This piece was exhibited in a one-person exhibition at the National Arts Club in New York.

Au Soleil, 18x24 plein air oil on linen

This Beach Painting, Sand Castles is a plein air oil painted on location in Brittany France. This is painted as a full size painting on location at Venuzula beach. The two little kids were piling up the sand in an attempt to make a sand castle. They had great fun with their piling of sand while I painted. I don’t the structure really mattered much.
