"Halophytic plants grow in environments characterized by a high salt concentration. Thanks to special adaptation strategies, they are able to tolerate conditions that would be lethal for most plant species. For this project, I have selected plants that grow in the coastal area of the town where I live. I shot the still lifes on wet collodion glass negatives and printed them on salted paper; the paper was made by me using water from our sea, creating images that are truly "made of sea." Wet collodion and salt printing are ancient photographic techniques dating back to the late 19th century. This choice was not dictated by sterile nostalgia for the past. The perfection of digital photography has stripped photography of its distinctive artisanal soul. In creating a collodion glass plate, my pursuit of something tactile and tangible is paramount; every single shot requires preparation and full awareness."
