With ON THE QUAY, I wanted to paint a moment of everyday life — ordinary, yet full of weight.
A dockside scene like many others, yet here, frozen in posture and light.
The shadow on the ground becomes as important as the figures themselves.
Nothing seems to happen — and yet everything is there:
bodies holding still, eyes looking away, the quiet presence of a dog.
