This vibrant piece, created with colour pencils and indenting tools on pastelmat, captures a wild cockatoo perched on our balcony, gazing over the iconic heritage Petersham Train Station during a glowing sunset. The scene is alive with lush trees and the charming architecture of Sydney’s Inner West, rendered in exquisite detail and layered textures.
Crafted by my daughter, this artwork was awarded Runner Up in the 2025 Inner West Sydney Young Creative Award, a testament to her emerging talent and unique perspective. The use of pastelmat brings out the soft yet striking contrasts of the cockatoo’s feathers, while the background swirls with the warmth and energy of dusk.
