Fennel in Gold

Description
While working in my Petaluma studio setting up for The Memoirs show, I could not help notice the long sculptural lines of the dried fennel plant growing meters tall along the bank of the Petaluma river by the studio building. I foraged a few branches that spoke to me. Their structure, elegance and simplicity appealed to me and decided to use them on my long wood panels I had on hand. In their nature they sort of blend with the rest of the foliage, so much so that unless you are seeking them, you may not notice them. And so, I sought to make their essence prominent and bold with black textured base and a gold metal leaf application.
