Description
Gallup, NM "This piece is one of five works in a series on embossed paper. Whereas I usually tear and cut a variety of papers to create a piece, for this series I decided to let the patterns already embossed into the paper dictate the basic shapes of the compositions. The placement of color in the squares may appear to be random, but there is a pattern. The title, Gen Pop, is short for general population, a prison term for the main body of prisoners not segregated into special housing. Because there is no blending or layering of the colors in this piece, and each color is confined to its own space, the self-contradictory idea of "isolation together," lent itself well to the title. As in all my work, the color is entirely the product of the paper. There is no paint on the canvas." 2nd Place Winner of the "Color Play" Abstract Art Contest Group Exhibition
