Description
“Ezuru Iye Oba” (Stolen Queen), 2022-2023, 127 x 127 cm Project Description: The British monarch is known for its atrocities against African countries. The pillaging of cities, countries and towns all over the continent endured for over 200 years. My vision as a descendant of my ghanaian ancestors and friend of neighboring country nigeria, is to remind viewers of the gruesome history against our people. I am making paintings to depict my identity as a descendant and friend who is giving voice to what was stolen from our continent through the use of surrealistic, figurative and representational style. The depiction of important artefacts in African history, for example: (benin bronzes) is vital to my effort to change the narrative of wrongfully acquired items from the continent
