ARTISTS TO KNOW: Volume 1 gathers four emerging artists: Derriann Pharr, Nia Winslow, Kiki Joyce, and Aleah Leary whose works weave together themes of transformation, identity, and cultural memory. Presented virtually by SHEER, this collection invites viewers to move through a space where collage, painting, and sculpture meet to create new visions of self and community.

Derriann Pharr creates gestural, shape-shifting figures in mixed media that examine self-compassion and representation.

Nia Imani Winslow uses layered collage to celebrate the vibrancy and complexity of Black life and culture.

Kiki Joyce builds colorful, dreamlike worlds through painting and assemblage that reimagine everyday objects and identity.

Aleah Leary works across painting, textiles, and ceramics to explore memory, family, and selfhood.

Step quietly into a world where memory breathes, instinct speaks, and the soul finds its voice. Visions Beyond the Veil invites viewers to explore the unseen layers of emotion, spirit, and transformation. These works do not merely depict—they reveal. They whisper of solitude, resilience, and the wild beauty that lives within.

This collection is a spiritual journey not bound by geography or time, but by the inner landscapes we all carry. Through vibrant color, delicate tension, and intuitive form, each piece offers a space for reflection, empowerment, and quiet awakening.

Let yourself be drawn beyond the surface. What you find there may not be what you expected—but it will be something true.

Narratives in the flesh

To travel is to step beyond the familiar, moving into places where the ordinary softens and new rhythms take hold. The senses awaken to the textures, sounds, and colours of the world, and every detail carries the possibility of wonder and discovery. Streets, landscapes, and buildings hold stories, while the people we meet offer glimpses of lives lived differently from our own. 

Adventures also expand the mind and deepen understanding. Encountering new landscapes, languages, and ways of being raises questions rarely felt at home. Every step calls for openness and adaptability, challenging assumptions and broadening perspective. In these moments, we begin to notice the patterns of our own thoughts and behaviours, seeing both the world and ourselves with fresh awareness. Life on the road teaches through experience, leaving insights that endure long after the voyage has ended. The journey is not only across space but also towards greater consciousness.

L'art au féminin

Butterflies become our messengers of stillness. They represent not only the lightness of the moment but also transformation and the awakening of consciousness. The butterfly can elevate a fleeting moment to eternity.

"Stillness is a state of mind." These words remind us that stillness is not an external place but a state of mind. It exists not only in the remote corners of nature but also in the vibrant streets of the city, if we are willing to recognize it. The butterflies show us that even in the urban hustle and bustle, there is space for stillness if we allow ourselves to find it.

When we consciously engage with the fleeting moment, when we focus on the silence behind the noise, we experience a precious moment that connects us to eternity. This is my contribution to this festival on Urban Silence — an invitation that reminds us that silence can be everywhere if we discover it in our minds.

Elaine lives in Bristol. Her oil compositions evoke the feel of a particular location, yet are not direct representations but rather organic abstractions that seem to evolve and change depending on her surrounding environment and the ever changing light,

By placing an element of control alongside the accidental, Elaine allows geometrically straight lines to play with splashes of colour, poured paint and loose brushwork.
