Following my trip to kenya I loved the outfits worn by goats.

Fashionable Goat

Painted en plein air in my back garden at the height of summer. A patch of wild flowers, some self-seeded, some deliberately sown from gifted seeds, grow among a rose and lavender. A riot of colour and texture in this informal space, attracting butterflies, bees and insects.

Above the Shed

After a recent trip to Kenya I was inspired by the space and the black and white of the herds of Zebras

Zebra Crossing

Scarborough seafront used to have a freak show right up to the late 1960's, I was never allowed to go and I had wondered how there could be a headless woman?

Headless Woman Show

Wild Garden

Painted en plein air in my back garden at the end of summer. Honesty seed-heads bring reflected silvery light to the mass of raspberry canes, starting again with promise of next year’s fruit. A warm day spent observing the tangle of undergrowth in an informal garden.

Honesty and Raspberry Canes

The first in this years summer series of evening light in my garden.

Sun soaked Hollyhock

Emerging from a moment long forgotten, this image travels through the fold of time - where the past breathes again in light. The tram glides between eras, carrying whispers of Nottingham’s yesteryears and the tenderness of memory reborn.

Through the Foulds of Time. Nottingham 1930

In hotter climates the donkeys work. Transporting heavy bricks and building materials in hot conditions, traveling for miles in the dry, dust. A donkey’s life is a hard one, always seen as a beast of burden, ever since a donkey allegedly carried the son of god into Jerusalem. Forever to bear the burden of humankind.

My Donkey Pal

Peony is a truly magnificent flower. For a long time, it has been worthy of the artist's canvases and palace halls. No wonder he is considered the king of all flowers. In terms of its beauty and luxuriance, the peony competed with the rose. It was loved both in ancient Europe and in ancient China. Legends were made about it. To this day, in the East, the peony is considered a flower that ignites passion...
This painting made it's way to the semi-finals in the ARTBOX.PROJECT Palma 2.0 exhibition!

Peony Passion

My main inspiration as an artist is wildlife and nature. I love birds, and occasionally see swans along the river near where I live.
They are so graceful, yet quite characterful in their attitude. By painting loosely, but still with detail, I feel I captured this bird’s beauty.

Amazon Grassland: Continually destroying the rainforest to produce grazing for the world-wide meat market. Allowing the constant hunt for fossil resources. Hoping to profit from the sacrilege.
Collapsing the planets lungs and poisoning the air with methane and carbon gases.
Poor quality grassland, another sterile desert in a few short years. (initially I saw the image & colours as a vision when I closed my eyes just before sleep).

Being an owner of a large garden ,my inspiration is just outside my window.blessed with a beautyful summer and a host of birds ,my imagination was drawn to the old folk tale about magpies.

1 for Sorrow

A summer view on this French island off Provence as Cicadas hummed and visitors relaxed with a drink in a warm sea breeze.

Street bar on Porquerolles

I was particularly stimulated by the charming scene and young lady catching the dappled sunlight over this French scene

French street cafe Just so

Originally a casual part of a pair. This is perhaps a soft, intimate scence. An extended and stylised drawing, softly coloured to reflect the mood. One of the many stories that are part my imagined narrative.

Lucky cat

Following in a long tradition of art and the body, my interests lie with themes of life, health, and illness. Made from a tow bar, syringe, and red car spray paint. It has its roots in men's medical issues and manliness.

GYRES 2 is part of the EMBEDDED IN THE FLESH OF THE WORLD series exploring memory embodied; reactivating gestures, marks, punctuations recalling encounters with/in the world. Touching, feeling, sensing, almost belonging. Using my sensuous physicality to create with natural/manufactured, new/discarded found materials. I choose to leave the marks of my passage, my making just as those marks have been left on/within me through my encounters. I am embedded in these forms.
Thinking about spirals and time and the ability to change; of water, of earth, of space – the eddies and currents. The Weddell Sea whose waters journey across expanses of our globe created initially on the surface by winds driving sea-ice and icebergs in a clockwise vortex, forming eddies 25-37 miles across; these vast gyres generate deep water currents that transport heat around the globe.

One of my favourite things is to explore the rocks, to head out over them, not knowing where the destination may be. It's the telling of the journey, rather than the destination that is important in this piece.

The painting is inspired by the fleeting nature of time and its memories. My starting point is 'time & tide wait for no man.'

Living in Bristol is magical. We have the excitement of the city along side many green spaces and spacious parks. You can start a walk off in the city and end up as if you have driven to the countryside. Lots of cool pubs on route helps!

I have created this piece using layers of paper, plaster, photography and vintage book pages. It’s a cute little piece but packs a punch. I like that people get up close to my work to see the intricate details and the depth of the piece.
