Description
She is trapped by her own design, held prisoner in the cage of her mind, Lock in hand, a symbol of her plight. Dressed in checkered, a symbol of the good, bad and the ugly moments from her wardrobe of experience. In chains of her own creation, yearning to be free, but unwilling to use the key. And so, the pad lock is open, yet in the cage of her own making she remains. The title of this piece is a play upon words, a juxtaposition of the conditions of a mentally healthy individual from one who still succumbs as a victim of mental illness. A lot of individuals have played the victim to their own folly, nursing many negative effects of mental imbalances that has done more harm than good to their current situations. The more you play the victim the worse off the situation gets. you can either choose to remain in and within the limitations of your self-created mental enslavement or come out of the locked metal gates that were never really locked.
