Earth Vitae" belongs to the 2024 limited “Earth” collection, created during the artist’s profound transition from a life of structure and intensity to one rooted in nature and introspection in Serra da Estrela. The work captures the essence of that rebirth — the moment when stillness becomes nourishment, and grounding turns into creative vitality.
Painted on raw, unprimed cotton, the piece embodies the tactile honesty of the earth itself. Layers of mineral tones — ochres, siennas, and muted greens — intertwine with delicate washes of light, evoking soil, root, and renewal. Each gesture carries the pulse of transformation, as if the landscape were breathing through the canvas. The title, Earth Vitae (Latin for “Living Earth”), reflects the artist’s reconnection to the source — to the cyclical flow between destruction and growth, silence and creation.
