Patels in Harmony

This artwork features three eagles on a mountain, illustrating my personal journey.  The lead eagle, with my face, embodies the struggle to break free.  Another eagle, with anguished eyes, reveals the pain of pursuing dreams amidst familiar expectations.  The final eagle, eyes closed, pierced by arrows, signifies the path not taken.  A self-portrait of rebellion, resilience, and the pursuit of an art career over societal norms.  Inspired by Frida Kahlo, this piece resonates with my heart's truth.

Wings of Defiance: A Self-Portrait in Flight

This is my very first painting, a heartfelt tribute to my mother's unwavering dedication and love.  Crafted in 1991 during my time at Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady, New York.  This piece captures a cherished moment forever etched in my memory.

Inspired by a Polaroid snapshot taken during one of her countless sewing sessions, the painting showcases my mother, bathed in the soft glow of window light.  Her focus as she skillfully maneuvers fabric under the needle symbolizes the resilience and grace with which she clothed her family in love and tradition.  

This painting not only honors her talent and beauty but also serves as a testament to her tireless devotion.  It remains a poignant reminder of the sacrifices she made to ensure all eight of her children were beautifully dressed for every occasion.  

My mother holds a special place in my heart, reflecting my deep gratitude and admiration for the incredible woman who shaped my world.
