"The Once Reluctant Artist"... Art is my language—a way to explore the human experience, particularly through the lens of a Black man, yet beyond the symbolism of skin color. My figures exist in hues of blue, green, white, and earth tones, telling stories of resilience and authenticity. My work is ethnic but never tribal—deeply personal yet universal. At its core, my art is about connection—the silent dialogue between creator and observer. Just as we all instinctively recognize beauty in a sunset or a child’s laughter, I want my work to tap into that shared experience—where identity and existence merge. Colored pencil has been my foundation since childhood, when my mother nurtured my creativity with what we had. Over time, I embraced pastels, chalk, and acrylics—each serving a purpose. Inspired by Charles White, Ernie Barnes, and Picasso, I aim to create work that makes people feel seen and valued. Once reluctant, I now walk in my gift, embracing my path and inviting others to do the same—to see beauty in both the ordinary and the extraordinary.
