Pelican White

While making a trip to Colorado I came across this flock of White Pelican.  I loved the contrast against the reflections of the evergreens and decide on this sister piece to the Moonlight in the Deep Woods (also in this show.  24x36 oil with 5" frame.

Pearls of Light

This piece was a unique discovery, when driving into the wetland, I coasted into a scene of pure bliss.  There was this huge blue heron fishing in the backwater and I stopped and just took it all in.  It was a painting already to go, but for the conversion into paint.  I will never forget how it felt on this mild fall day to see such a beautiful creature and to have the opportunity to immortalize the moment in paint. 

Tranquility was painted in the Chesapeake Bay National Park Wetlands. These works, as well as the remaining Top 100 were on view in the Arts for the Parks. This piece is being offered by collectors Mr and Mrs Fry.

White Horses of the Sea Ii

Les Roches & Les Vagues, original plein air painting (painted on location) in Brittany 21"x 34" oil.  A Beautiful Abstract Marine.  By that I mean I have eliminated most of the realistic reference points of horizon and sky. Just pure water his piece was part of a presentation at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

My mother traveled with me on this trip and so did some filming of my painting on location.  This particular piece was one we were able to film  see video link below.

About the Brittany Beach Paintings:  I painted 7 years in France from 1991-1998 5 of those included projects painted in Brittany France.  I had continuous showings of these works each year as well as work from other locations

I painted this original oil painting on site (en plein air).  I had a great day painting at Reid Park. I painted on Griffith point. The Plein air Painters of Maine were out there but I only saw a few and they were in a different location. Big place so really unless you’re all painting at the same location you don’t see each other.
It was a great location and I can envision having other pieces that would be good. I did a sketch and I’m going to tweak some of the foreground stones. But great color to work with. Such fun to finally be getting in the groove.

Fall Dusk

This is a landscape painting, entitled “Warming in the Sun” by Deborah Chapin.   Perfect for Rustic or Country Décor,  The original is 16 by 34 plein air oil painting.   The “Warming in the Sun” depicts a second brood.  They’re waiting for the fledgling to be able to fly south for the winter.  Already late into the fall the mother has stayed behind to guide her charge on the long journey.   Frequently if the first brood doesn’t survive through the year the egret will have a second brood and take the dangerous journey once the chick is ready to fly the journey.  This piece is part of the plein air series I did with wetlands and wildlife over a 10 year period.

Warming in the Sun

The Dancing Wild Wheat and Red Wing Black Birds was a favorite subject. The birds would bob about on the stalks of wheat eagerly feasting on the wheat seeds. Then en masse rise together and swoop around then all land in a new location. What was fun to listen too was the cackling of the birds in the field sometimes you couldn’t see a one if they were on the ground but you knew they were there. The original is 16×24 plein air oil painting. The “Wild Wheat and Red Wing Black Birds” is part of the Chesapeake Plein air Series.

This is an Original Oil Painting entitled “Moonlight in the Deep Woods”. Moonlight has a magical quality all its own.   As the light fades and the change from the last light of the day to the first light of night the shimmering moon plays against the mystery of the woods.
