Turquoise Ocean Waves is inspired by the beautiful beaches of Cornwall. .This painting looks at these waves which are caused by wind and tides, that make the surface of the ocean rise and fall. When wind creates waves in deep water, they appear as large swells that look like rolling hills. As the swells reach shallow areas, they catch on the bottom and slow down, causing the water to pile up and form waves.
For my work I like to use oil paint. This medium is very versatile allowing you to add thick impasto layers or more fluid translucent ones. As a result this medium is very useful when you want to capture ocean waves in all their forms and variety of colours. Also it is such robust a medium I can scrape the paint back or scratch into it.Try it!
