Overtures)
In the collection Overtures, I have begun to approach the vision of artistically sharing how I, as an autistic person, take in and experience the world by trying to portray my experience of approaching others.
Here, the house forms, somewhat boxy, scarred, and worn, serve as a metaphor for the autistic search for connection. The houses symbolize home, our safest place. Asemic writing represents non-verbal communication, common among autistic people, and the original communication with the world around us that occurs before we can put it into words. The geometric patterns reflect contact with the universe, the whole, the underlying life force we sense before we can even name it.
Gently, one step at a time, the bodies approach each other, creating a new kind of togetherness – a shared human presence in love.Try it!
