"Kutaswa (Initiation)" by Keith Zenda captures a young woman's transition into adulthood. Wrapped in a red patterned cloth, she stands contemplative, aware of the cultural significance of this rite. Ethereal ancestors surround her, symbolizing the shared journey and spiritual guidance. Footprints dominate the canvas, representing the path she follows, one walked by generations before her. A sphere at her feet symbolizes the world she steps into, full of new responsibilities. Zenda beautifully illustrates this profound cultural practice, highlighting the connection between individual identity and community heritage.
