The concern is socio-political, an address of assumed gender roles in Art and physical history. Marigold Men (Marigolds are luridly coloured rubber gloves), the male nude wearing rubber gloves, comic and concerned with the depiction of men in advertising using cleaning products and the male names given to cleaning products: Mr. Clean, Mr. Muscle, Mr. Sheen etc. Some take poses from art history, others just put the male nude in a domestic role. MARIGOLD MAN BEATS THE BIG C, is a humorous original print, made to raise a smile and funds to beat prostate cancer. I am a Bideford based Artist and wanted to use my Marigold Men for something useful! It has been a privilege to work with a wonderful man who has been living with prostate cancer for some time now and is facing further treatment.
