Description
The "En el lodo cenagoso" series is an extension of a work I painted while still living in Cuba. This series emerged from a particularly dark period in my life as an immigrant in the United States. The paintings reflect the weight of the internal and external struggles I experienced during that time and seek to convey the feeling of being trapped in a restricting and oppressive environment. Inspired by Goya's black paintings, I used dark colors and shadows to capture a haunting atmosphere, symbolizing desolation and the challenge of facing adversity. Each piece in this series is characterized by mixed media on canvas, which allows for the creation of textures and details that invite the viewer to reflect on life's challenges. En el lodo cenagoso No.11 is one of the most important in the series, as it was the first where the man appears with a mask on his face. It reflects the parable I wrote, which later transformed into a series of poems after 2012. In the original story...
