My in-laws live near Kitsap Lake in Bremerton, WA. They have an amazing view from their house. This painting is inspired by how beautiful that area is.

Gateway

My oldest daughter started hiking a few years ago and absolutely loves it. I just love the photos she brings back! However, I believe I'm going to start hiking with her and taking my own photos. Our area is breathtaking. And every hiker knows it!

On The Trail

To the west of my home lies the beautiful Olympic National Park. The Hoh Rainforest is on the western side of the park, and is the home of many elk. Just one of the many beautiful things about living in the PNW.

One of the most iconic structures in the Pacific Northwest, the Space Needle conjures up so many wonderful memories. It's one of the things people think of first when they think about Seattle.

One of the beautiful creatures that lives in our area is the Orca. Artists have been inspired by these local whales for a long time. The black and white coloring and distinctive pattern fits well with the Northwest backdrop.

This is a painting I made of two of our children when we went to a local pumpkin patch. I loved the intensity and warmth of that field even though the temperature was a bit cool. I hope I never forget that wonderful day! This one is part of my personal collection.

This one was another painting that I didn't use any specific reference for; I just wanted to paint what I felt the PNW meant to me. My version of a Bob Ross painting with lots of happy little trees. This one sold to a neighbor of mine.

Northwest Hero

I've lived in Kitsap County most of my life, and one day my wife's brother came in from out of state. He loves the outdoors, and he wanted everyone to go on a hike. We found out that there was a nice trail with a small waterfall at the end of it. I had driven by this place a million times and never knew that waterfall was there. The hike is about a mile in, and you are rewarded by this natural beauty. I highly recommend this simple trail!

Dickerson Falls

This flower shows up in my garden every year. Sometimes it's reddish in color. Other times white. Never sure what we're going to see, and they don't last very long. But it's delicate and beautiful. And I wanted to paint it. This one is part of our personal collection.

Garden Flower

I painted this one for an auction to support local youth. This was not based on a photo of any kind; I simply wanted to loosely paint how it feels to me to live in the Pacific Northwest. While there are some clear recognizable forms, my goal was to push it a bit toward abstraction.

I love salmon. I love the colors. I'm grateful to have them as a food source. With this piece, I wanted to experiment and create a sense of movement. This painting hangs in my mother-in-laws house.

Salmon Stream

I painted this otter to raise money for cancer treatment for the daughter of one of my friends. I wanted something to make something cute that would be easy to sell in that setting. I put the paint on with fairly thick application and used plasticware to create some of the different textures.

This was my second hydrangea painting. With this one, I wanted to try a slightly different style while maintaining the intensity of color and light.

We have hydrangeas spread around our small yard. And each year, they show up a little differently. I wanted to try and capture the feeling I get with the intensity of color on a bright summer day.

Trees

My family took a trip down to Cannon Beach in Oregon during 2014. This painting was inspired by a photo I took on that trip. I loved the enthusiasm the kids showed as they raced towards Haystack Rock!

Haystack Rock

Originally, I made this one just as an experiment and had no intention of selling it. However, a friend really liked it. So who am I to get in the way of that? My goal here was to experiment with some of the fluorescent colors adding them to my usual palette and see if I can capture more of the intense feeling of light.

I made this painting to raise money for a local nonprofit. This was made from a photo taken during a hike of a forest brook.

I painted this one to raise money at an auction for local youth. I made this painting a bit larger to try and capture some of the same feeling you get in person when on this trail at Mount Rainier. This park is another one of the most iconic places in our area. 
 
A good friend was able to win the auction, and it hangs at the Trina Knoche Insurance Agency.

Myrtle Falls at Mount Rainier

I created this as a gift for my wife. It hangs in her hospital; Willow Tree Animal Hospital, behind the reception desk. While willow trees are not purple, this was an artistic decision I made in the process of painting it. My goal was to capture how it would feel to stand under its branches as light pushes through.

These flowers show up in my garden each year on schedule. Some come in white like this one. Some come in with a fuchsia tone. Either way, they are beautiful and a consistent source of inspiration for me.

My family loves going to the zoo! We took the kids into the aquarium which might have been the best part of the trip that day. They have an amazing jellyfish tank and it inspired me to create this piece. They are such interesting creatures to watch, and the colors are absolutely beautiful. They are an incredible combination of constant and fluid motion. This would look great in any PNW home.

I painted this as a Christmas gift for a couple who are dear friends of mine and had been huge supports of me while I was in youth ministry. This is a place they like to go on the Washington coastline.

Cape Disappointment Lighthouse

On the way home from a Seattle Mariners game, this is what I witnessed. I took a photo of it and brought it back to my home studio to paint. It sold within the first week to one of my high school classmates.

Heading Home

This bird is not native to the PNW, but it was one of the animals in Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo. I loved the brightness and contrast present in this scene, so I just had to paint it.

Taveta Golden Weaver

I decided to participate in our local Whaling Days event during the summer of 2023, but I didn't have any whales in my portfolio. So I decided to paint my favorite whale, the orca. This painting sold within 4 days to a family member.

My daughter loves to go on hikes, and she took several photos while in the Coast Mountains. I loved this one and asked her if I could paint it. This was donated to a nonprofit for an auction, but a good friend of mine ended up purchasing it.
