"What Goes Around (B & W)" In nature, spirals are the embodiment of strength and beauty. From seashells to galaxies, to the foundation of life—DNA, spirals have several patterns that can be mathematically described, such as the familiar Fibonacci sequence. 
 
On an emotional level, the spiral is comforting, a reminder of inherent, underlying order and harmony. Symbolically it expresses the idea of evolution, progress, and growth. 
 
Like many artists, I use it often in my work, both intentionally and unintentionally. As a meditative process, silence + painting + spirals has rhythm that reflects a simple honesty. Each work is a glimmer that can restore your sense of joy, wonder, and connection. That's the root of of this series and the purpose of my painting.

What Goes Around (Black and Ecru)

Dozens of times I hiked past this crazy, photogenic, spirally vine. I'd anticipate its hugeness, twisting gracefully into the sky, gifting me with an enticing new view. Then one day, it was gone. I knew it was an invasive species whose desire would eventually smother its host tree. I knew it didn't belong. Or did it? 

It's the inspiration for this series, after all.

Inspiration matters, but it's not what makes a painting. It's about work. A decades long studio practice means I've learned to follow the moment without judgment. As a meditative process—silence + painting + spirals—has an honest rhythm that invites a deeper dive with time to linger. Each painting is a call to invigorate your sense of wonder and connection.
