PaintingDescription
I Am Me is an exploration of finding freedom, of ‘being me’. With expressive
brushstrokes and impasto paint, I attempt to capture the immediacy of the
flight of a phoenix carrying the strength of renewal and hope as a metaphor for
stepping into the courage to be our true selves. Who we truly are as spiritual
individual beings.
This painting is part of a collection of works exploring the struggles of identity -
who we are as individuals and who we are within the collective. Questions I’ve
often pondered are: How we define ourselves. Should we define ourselves?
This body of work is still in its exploration stage, and this piece depicts the
transition from breaking through the struggles of being curtailed, into flying
free on the road to understanding ourselves. These are my objective observations as well as a culmination of personal experiences as I marry up my understanding of what spirituality is through a philosophical debate.
