Bise zébrée / Zebras' kiss
DescriptionEarly in age, zebra foals are brownish with white lines. But in 2019, in Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, a foal named Tira was born with polka-dot marks. This unusual and rare pattern exposes her to a higher level of danger as she cannot benefit of the confusion effect when the herd is threated by a predator. Tira is growing up and is always found close to her mother.
While many wonder if zebras are white with black strikes or the opposite, I wondered all along this painting which color to apply last! This painting is high in contrasts, with its zebra patterns and a warm background in orange and ocre shades.
