View From A Bridge

Regi Popelier
Hokkaido has always been a magical place for me and especially winter time is excellent for photographing cranes. We left at 4:00 in the morning at a temperature of -18° C and drove to the Otowa Bridge, famous for photographers. It is important to arrive there early in order to find a position and especially a place to place your tripod. The Chinese cranes use the bridge in winter for sleeping and shelter. In the morning after the appearance of the first rays of the sun, they leave the safety of the bridge, slowly taking off, looking for food. It is a spectacle to see hundreds of them upon their awakening, enjoying the rising rays of the sun amidst a row of trees with frozen leaves. A thick layer of fog that slowly expands makes it mysterious and creates an unusual photographic situation.
