Wet Season

Regi Popelier
At the outskirts of the mighty Kilimanjaro and in the heart of a large semi-arid ecosystem lies Amboseli NP. This park is relatively small, measuring 392 km2 at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level. It consists mainly of flat grasslands, complementing the evergreen swamps that are permanently fed by the melting snow from the mountain. These swamps provide water and food to the huge herds of herbivores that inhabit the area. Amboseli is well worth visiting during wet season as it is home to large herds of zebra, buffalo and wildebeest, and in the autumn sometimes large numbers of flamingos. Very sporadically, zebras can be seen running across the water-filled grasslands while flamingos are anxiously preparing to take off. The beautiful backdrop of the mountains gives an extra depth to this work.
