The story of Pandora naughtily opening a box and releasing all the troubles into the world (with the exception of Hope) has always resonated with me. The Gulabi Gang in India was started by one woman who stood up to domestic violence in her small village .
The 'gang' of women wear cerise saris and carry cerise stained fighting sticks and is now a large, highly respected movement reducing domestic violence and corruption in local government. I wanted to juxtapose the two concepts.
