“Where the Herd Rests” reflects a childhood shaped by cattle bells, dusty paths, and long days herding in rural Zimbabwe. The calm cattle made life easy, settling quietly by evening — but the goats brought chaos. Slipping through fences and raiding gardens, they dragged us into trouble and turned every grazing trip into a mix of duty and mischief. And of course, no parent was ever meant to know. 🤣
Painted in oil on traditionally processed goat skin and stitched with goat-hide thread onto rust-preserved steel bars, the work holds the texture and spirit of rural life. The materials recall kraal fences, boreholes, old ploughs, and the raw honesty of memory.
For Zimbabweans, it brings back dust, hooves, and childhood lessons learned the hard way. For international collectors, it offers a window into a world shaped by resilience, humour, and nature.
