Peace and War
Description
On the let side we see nature with blooming flowers and flying butterflies in daylight. On the right, we witness a blazing fire set in the dark of night. This stark contrast in background symbolised a conflict in the subject’s world. The choice of placing the tranquil mood on the left versus the destructive one to the right is a clever choice to indicate one being imagination (left) and reality on the right. This symbolism is also portrayed in her facial expression where the left side of her eyes encompasses happiness and youth while the right showed fear and craziness. Her hands also further strengthen this point where she removes her hair to the side to see more clearly on the left while she covers the right to avoid such grotesque. One can notice the emblem on her collar which is Ukraine’s Coat of Arm. Instead of the usual blue and gold, it is dyed red which can be related to the war in Ukraine.Try it!
