Original oil painting on canvas. Width 63 cm Height 93cm or width 25 ins x height 36.5 inches, canvas depth 4cm or 1.5ins. Framed in a white washed wooden frame, signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Surf V is inspired by the South Devon Coastline. I admire those who take on giant waves there. For inspiration I take photos and videos of waves and sketch on the beach. Then take these back to the studio to work on the final painting.
This is a very textured painting. The thick paint layers are applied with a pallet knife. Whilst the thinner layers are applied using various sizes of brushes to enable a translucent finish. The light coming through the waves and also the ever-changing colour of the sea is what I am keen to explore.

Unlike other mediums that dry quickly, oil paint has a slow-drying time, giving me the freedom to blend and mix colours for an extended period.Try it!
