Lost in Translation is a painting about distance, stillness, and the feeling of being slightly out of step with the world around you. A single figure stands in a dark, rain-soaked space, turned inward beneath a heavy surface of deep blue, black, and muted red. The atmosphere is quiet, but not empty. It holds that sense of something felt deeply but not easily spoken.
I did not begin with a fixed idea for this one. The figure emerged slowly and stayed with me, as though the painting was working its way towards a feeling before it found its form. I wanted the darkness of the surface to carry most of the weight, with only small flashes of colour within the figure itself suggesting something held back, or still trying to come through.Try it!
