This is a digital design from a canvas called Guidance, painted by O’Donovan in 2013.
The artist wanted to paint her mother's hands as she had known them throughout her life. As she was painting, she concentrated on the flesh, showing skin with muscle, tendon, bones and joints beneath. But it somehow did not feel right. At the end of the work she painted her Mother's engagement and wedding ring and suddenly the canvas worked. It made her realise how important they were in the image of her mother's hands!Try it!
