Surf II is inspired by the South Devon Coastline. I admire those who take on giant waves there. For inspiration I take photos of waves and sketch on the beach.
This is a very textured painting. The thick paint layers are applied with a pallet knife. Whilst the thinner layers are applied using various sizes of brushes to enable a translucent finish. The light coming through the waves and also the ever-changing colour of the sea is what I am keen to explore.
Medium
Unlike other mediums that dry quickly, oil paint has a slow-drying time, giving me the freedom to blend and mix colours for an extended period. This allows for greater control over the final outcome of my artwork, as every brushstroke can be manipulated and perfected until it reaches my desired effect.Try it!
