Dozens of times I hiked past this crazy, photogenic, spirally vine. I'd anticipate its hugeness, twisting gracefully into the sky, gifting me with an enticing new view. Then one day, it was gone. I knew it was an invasive species whose desire would eventually smother its host tree. I knew it didn't belong. Or did it? 

It's the inspiration for this series, after all.

Inspiration matters, but it's not what makes a painting. It's about work. A decades long studio practice means I've learned to follow the moment without judgment. As a meditative process—silence + painting + spirals—has an honest rhythm that invites a deeper dive with time to linger. Each painting is a call to invigorate your sense of wonder and connection.
