PaintingDescription
This painting is about a church in East London, Guardians Angels in Mile End. The painting will be part of an exhibition I am co-curating which includes 21 contemporary artists and work by the East London Group, an artist group based in Bow whose paintings date back to the 1930's. Elwyn Hawthorn, one of the members of the ELG, painted the church in 1931 and I wanted a connection with that moment in time, I researched local east end newspapers and found a story about a local shop being broken into and cigarettes being stolen, a large hole in the wall was found and there was a clue about a man with a limp with his cart and horse; which led to police capturing him. The work is not for sale until later in 2024.Try it!
