My work is heavily influenced by fantasy, surrealism, and ethereal subject matter. Growing up, I often looked to stories – whether that be books, plays, or songs – to seek advice. Uhlman’s Reunion taught me about the complexity of friendship, and Keyes’s Flowers for Algernon reminded me of the complexity of society. In stories, it seemed my problems were never unique, and that’s what drew me to storytelling.
In my work, I use storytelling techniques from literature and performance to guide my composition, color, and narrative. Because I primarily work with themes of tradition and family, my work is inherently nostalgic. My ultimate goal is to use visual art to tell stories that, one way or another, viewers are able to relate to. Nostalgia becomes a communal experience when it is depicted through a relatable, universal lens – in this case, imagination and storytelling.Try it!
